It is necessary to install the open source cloud for its efficient and uninterrupted functioning. Before coming to the openstack install step by step, the gross configuration of the platform network wise, environmental wise are essential. While considering the environmental installation, it’s up to the up gradation of the server either SQL database or NoSQL database which resides at the platform level. Again coming to the file systems that is the addition of each and every components right from Nova to orchestration services to the openstack installation which are the related components are needed to be installed properly.
Here comes the usage of the drivers, servers, modules for the sake of openstack installation in case of identity service, whereas it will be the storage of software concerned about images in case of image service. In other words, it is because of the addition of the image service (glance) the object storage of the virtual machine happens. Configuration of compute service involves several hypervisors like KVM or QEMU on the compute node.
Like the above said three components, other file systems or the basic components of the open sources are installed or configured in openstack install step by step. Once all the interrelated components are installed properly, the launch of the instance will take place. For this sake, two methods of virtual networking can be created in which either one public virtual network and an instance is created or one public and one private virtual network and one instance using each network are created. Using either of any set of instance will be the launch of the instance.
Based on the openstack instance storage backup’s theory, ephemeral storage or the persistent storage any of these two can be performed according to the user’s interest. Object storage is uneconomical and ideal whereas the block storage is expandable based on the user’s menu of storage. Amazon EC2 is the ideal example for the block storage. Object storage is installed using number of components like proxy, servers, rings, zones, containers, object i.e. the data to be stored. Block storage involves no components for installation, but exhibits controlled function with built-in trouble shooter.
Hypervisors are those services used in the openstack installation. It is usually KVM, XEN, LXC, QEMU, UML, XEN SEERVER, hyper-V and any one; only one hypervisor is used in the configuration. In case of openstack, mostly all of the hypervisors are enabled by openstack compute. In other words, openstack hypervisor support is available for all types including:
- KVM- kernel based virtual machine or the modified QEMU is used for the launch of virtual machines.
- QEMU – this type of hypervisor is used for development purpose.
- LXC- linux based virtual machines are run by the containers like LXC.
- Vm ware V sphere – it is the improved version of linux 5.1.0
- XEN – these hypervisors are used to run linux, windows, free BSD.
- Xen server, hyper v are also used for the same purpose.
